Notes/Caveats:
(1) The total production according to the
reported last VIN of each assembly plant
totals 660,012 and does not match figures above and leaves about
24,454 Chevelles & Monte Carlos from the assembly plants unaccounted for.
It's quite possible these 24,454 units were destined for
overseas sales and were not reported in the above production
numbers.
(2) There were 53,599 Malibu/Custom El Camino series were equipped with
RPO Z25 SS396 option and 8,773 were ordered with RPO Z15 SS454 option.
Breakdown of LS5 to LS6 engines in the 8,773 Z15 quantity is
4,298 LS5s and
4,475 LS6s.
(3) There were 3,823 Monte Carlos were equipped with RPO Z20 SS454 option.
(4) n/a indicates the series/model was not available with that engine
type.
(5) Only certain series/models were listed as being imported from Canada.
Where there is no import figure, that series/model was not imported.
(6) Of the 25,938 V8 Malibu Sport Coupes imported from Canada, 3,306
were equipped with Z25 SS 396 Equipment option and 299 with Z25 SS 454
Equipment. Canada also imported from the U.S. 231 Malibu Sport Coupes
and 329 13680 El Caminos. Some of those imported into Canada were LS6
optioned since Canada built no LS6 Chevelles.
(7) It is suspected that Arlington, Atlanta, and Flint did not build
convertibles and possibly neither Atlanta nor Flint built any
station wagons in 1970; it is known that Arlington did build station
wagons.
(8) Import figures are those Chevelles produced in Oshawa, Canada
and imported to the U.S. for U.S. dealer sales. Chevelles built in
Oshawa for Canadian dealers are NOT reflated in the production
numbers above.
(9) Vintage Vehicle Services documents indicate that of the 25,938 V8 Malibu
sport coupes built for export to the U.S., 992 were ordered with the M20 and 2,152 with the
U14 gauge package.
* The El Camino is a body style and not a series. It's unknown if the 329 (by Vintage Vehicle Services' own records) exported to Canada are included in the GM reported total of 40,728 so the 329 figure is not included in the total here.
** Monte Carlos were not built at Atlanta or Kansas City,
only Baltimore, Flint, and Van Nuys.
*** Convertibles were not built at Arlington, Atlanta, or Flint.
**** No known station wagons were built at Atlanta or Flint.
***** GM of Canada built 10,176 Malibu sport coupes for sale in Canada, 700 were optioned with the Z25 option and L34 engine.
