Notes/Caveats:
(1) The total production according to the
reported last VIN of each assembly plant
totals 649,269 and does not match figures above.
(2) There were 24,946 Malibu/El Camino (Custom) series was equipped
with RPO Z15 SS option and, of these, 5,333 were equipped with SS454
equipment; the remainder were L65, L48, and LS3 engines.
(3) There were 9,508 standard Chevelles ordered with the Heavy Chevy
option.
(4) n/a indicates the series/model was not available with that engine
type.
(5) There were 20,031 LS3 (402cid) engines optioned in 1972.
(6) Of the 2,888 13437 Chevelle sport coupes imported from Canada, 1,151
were optioned with YF3.
(7) Of the 21,106 13637 Malibu sport coupes imported from Canada, 1,542
were optioned with Z15.
(8) Of the 21,106 13637 Malibu sport coupes imported from Canada, 266
were optioned with the LS5.

Note: On all eight cylinder models, the "x" represents one of five 8-cylinder engines available in 1972. Engine designations are "W" for 454-4 "U" for 396-4, "J" for 350-4, "H" for 350-2, and "F" for 307-2. Only one six cylinder engine was available and "D" indicates the 250-1 engine.
